Volume 29 Summer 2024 is shipping from June 10th, 2024

This volume is a celebration of the diversity and eclectic nature of arts and culture in this region, from the most exciting authors, artists and photographers to an Acadian immersive outdoor experience attracting visitors from around the globe.

There is so much to enjoy this summer, but the undisputed essential excursion is the Akadi Lumina night-walk experience in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, that proudly adorns the cover. Lumina night walks are unique immersive experiences in natural outdoor environments inspired by a site and the local culture. James Mullinger meets the masterminds who brought it to New Brunswick.

To coincide with the Paris Olympics, Mark Bessoudo tells the story of a victorious rowing crew from Saint John that caused James Renforth to have a town named after him. Forty years ago, the IWK Telethon for Children began, sharing heartwarming patient stories and encouraging the community to support the IWK. Jennifer Wood tells the inspiring story of four decades of giving, highlighting the impact our Maritime community has had on IWK Health over the past 40 years and looking to the future.

[EDIT]’s Thandiwe McCarthy interviews Dr. Mary McCarthy-Brandt with accompanying photographs by Gary Weekes, reviews of new books from Rhonda Bulmer, Jeff Houlahan and Dr. Jane Gregory, and all of the essential shows, exhibitions, festivals, events of the season including Jared Betts, Nelson White and Ballet By The Ocean.

Of course, summer is all about catching up on the pile of books toppling by your bed or desk and James has spent the past decade visiting every independent book store in Atlantic Canada to bring you the definitive guide that appears in this issue. He also interviewed the great Ian Hanomansing about his incredible life and career for an in-depth feature and met with Moncton-based photographer André Audet.
