This is our second annual Art + Design Issue of [EDIT] and a celebration of the extraordinary creativity, ingenuity and artistry that exists throughout Atlantic Canada.
Our cover story takes us inside Iceberg Contemporary Art Gallery, one of the region's most exciting new galleries. Founded in Moncton by Marc-Eric Fortin and Daniel Gallant, Iceberg is changing the way art is seen, sold and experienced in Atlantic Canada, bringing together extraordinary artists, bold ideas and an infectious belief in originality.
Elsewhere, we discover how art, engineering and innovation can come together in the most unexpected ways. New Brunswick's East Coast Innovation is combining engineering, design and an understanding of fish behaviour to rethink aquaculture technology, while acclaimed artist Geoff Slater brings an entirely different creative perspective to the process.
On Cape Breton Island, we visit Table Doucet, an extraordinary dining experience on the Cabot Trail rooted in Acadian heritage, local ingredients and a profound sense of place. In St. John's, Jennifer Wood meets Sarah Parker Charles and Nancy Shepherd of Carvel & Helm and discovers their ambitious new venture, Second Empire Surfaces, where wallcoverings are conceived and created as works of art.
We head to Halifax Harbour for the spectacular SailGP, where the world's fastest foiling sailboats combine elite sport, cutting-edge technology, precision and breathtaking design. Then we cross the entire country, travelling from Mile Zero in Victoria, British Columbia, to Kilometre Zero in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, on The Great Canadian Road Trip using GM's remarkable Super Cruise technology.
Photography and filmmaking take centre stage too. We celebrate Kelly Lawson, one of Atlantic Canada's most distinctive photographers, exploring her life, career and philosophy of seeing, while meeting Emma Lavender and Chris Kingston of Salt Cinematic, the Halifax production company taking Atlantic Canadian talent and storytelling to audiences around the world.
We also uncover a remarkable piece of New Brunswick history with cardiac and aortic surgeon Dr. Zlatko Pozeg, who tells the extraordinary story of how a boy from Minto played a pivotal role in the development of a breakthrough in heart bypass surgery that has helped save millions of lives.
All of this plus:
